Always something happening and nothing going on...

Here's my question over at Create a Connection this week.

"If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you be? You'd be able to do what you love and make money. Your spouse, children, significant other, pets-all would be able to come with you."

I think I would do very nicely in the south of France. I know I would get all sentimental and teary on the 4th of July, but I see myself living in another country and living the life of an expatriate. I'd be a woman who opens a bar and plays nothing but Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters on the jukebox.

peace and love y'all

And here's another installment of Helmut paintergirl style.

Mais oui! Being and expat in the South of France would be magnifique!

vedrana-though I have never been, I think I would be perfectly content.

jc-having a bar or a bookstore are the options or a video store then i run the risk of jay and silent bob types. I wonder what they are like in france?

lisa-just like my ancestors were patriots, being an expat sounds just as rebellious

Interesting, since I just got back from there and am posting photographs! We really loved Arles and Provence in general. ;-)

The expat life never stops feeling romantic, does it? And then you can always be caught up in loving two places (the homeland and the new land) equally and for different reasons...and how complex that makes you!

I would move down the road to a big house ON the water, with a private beach, painting and making "stuff", whatever I wanted, with a big art studio with a view and my kids would have a place right next to me in the work room and make their own mess and I would have someone to clean up after us. And do the dishes. I dont mind cooking but I dont want to do the dishes.

rissa-Your photos are lovely. I could see myself there.

jocelyn-it is a romantic notion isn't it? I also deep down love where I grew up, but know I can never go back to live there. I would be like that.

stepping-I could see you doing that. A big barn studio by the ocean and the girls puttering around with you. That's pretty dreamy. (I love the word puttering, even though it has aged conotations)

This Helmut Lang book is coming along very nicely - you might have to continue to alter art photography books picked up second-hand.
I LOVE your dining room inspired home improvement. I love the table and the painting with the placemats looks terrific. I so need that whim.

kiki-
helmut is just that way-esp since the photos are from the 70's and 80's. We had a capa book from the same publisher, but his are too serious for me to comment.

I always get a room/living space the way I want it-and then move. It has happened my whole life. I love those placemats too. I bought them ages ago from pearl river.
