The jig is up....

I refuse to take part in anything remotely Christmasy until thanksgiving is over.

The radio station here in the tri-state area has already begun the x-mas tunes. Not x-men but x-mas. We were driving around trying to find where we could buy a tofu turkey, getting lost in Chappaqua, searching for the clin-tons, knowing Buddy's ghost was wandering the streets and suddenly I hear George Michaels voice. "last Christmas I gave you my heart....Nooooooooo. I cannot listen to that until AFTER thanksgiving. It's wrong.

Melvin told me he didn't want a turkey this year, I said that's cool because I didn't feel like making it. I have lot's of cool side dishes to make. I know my ancestors didn't put chocolate in their pie, because sadly they didn't have it, but I'm sure they would do it and I have a very lovely recipe.

I guess I'm sort of sad about the whole Pilgrim/Indian thing. Did the Pilgrims really steal food? I didn't think anything really bad started happening until the Pilgrims hired mercenaries.

I know I have lost my way with Thanksgiving and I'm just trying to find a happy place. Making peace with myself and everyone.

You know I'm with you on the "no Christmas until after Thanksgiving" thing. I did put up my lights, but I won't turn them on until after Thanksgiving. I just figured since I had some free time and the weather was nice, why not put them up since you never know what will happen later?

As far as pilgrims and Indians, sadly it was probably like all culture clashes in our species, which as you can see are still going on today and always will. We just have to try to do better in our own lives.

I feel like Thanksgiving has lost it's place and is now like the pre-game show for the Christmas season, which frankly depresses me.

jc-I think it was wise to put the lights up. You never know...you could have snow. ok maybe not snow. I didn't do it last year, and I haven't decided if I'll do it this year. My neighborhood depresses me.

Oh and I guess I should be saying Native Americans. My 4 year year old is being all Fruedian by saying "Real Americans".

margaret-it's all about buying and that depresses me. You are right-it's the pre-game and I hate sports. I don't play well with others and I don't like events where everyone is forced to do the same thing. It goes against my nature. Yet I really love all the pretty trees and shimmery lights. Can't we all appreciate the togetherness of thanksgiving? We have the beautiful colors of fall, and we are lucky to have supermarkets with all different kinds of food. We are lucky, but it's rush rush until New Year's.
